Matt Crampton underlined his reputation as one of the emerging talents of British cycling on and off the track at the world championships.
Crampton, the 21-year-old Commonwealth Games silver medallist from Manchester, laid down a marker for the future in the kilometre time trial on Sunday.
He set the pace with a time of 1:01.822, but was eventually edged into fourth place by Frenchman Francois Pervis.
Remarkably, within an hour of that prodigious ride in his first senior world championships, Crampton took on the Wattbike challenge.
His peak power output of 1898 watts put him third overall, behind Wattbike world record holder Jan Bos, the Dutch speed skater, and Dave Readle, a British shot putter who recorded 1972 watts.
