Rees Achieves 24 Hour Record

Posted by Chris Rowe on Oct 09, 2009

Jim Rees, the Bedfordshire man who rode 3000 miles across America in 10 days and 20 hours, has set a new world record for 24 hours of continuous cycling. The record was achieved on a Wattbike during day one of the Cycle Show at Earls Court in London. Rees surpassed the previous record of 392.9miles, set last year by Neil Rhodes, with just under three hours to spare, and is still currently cycling! He is aiming not only to set a good bench mark for 24 hours, but also to achieve 1000 miles of cycling during the show in aid of the Wallace and Gromit Foundation. At current pace, he should achieve a total of around 460miles. Rees, who was featured on an ITV4 documentary about his participation in the Race Across America (RAAM) event, is attempting to complete his target mileage during the Earl’s Court show, which is open until Sunday (11 October). Rees said: "This reinforces the message that anything is possible with the right mindset. I only decided to do this just over a week ago." John Wilson from Wattbike said: "Brilliant! What a great achievement. The Wattbike is ideal for this sort of challenge and we’re full of praise for Jim for breaking the world record. We’re here at the show cheering him along. 1000miles is a very long way on a static bike!" Cycle Show 2009 will take place at Earl's Court 1, London. Open for trade only on the 8th October it opens to the public between the 9th and 11th October. Tickets are on sale now and are available online atwww.cycleshow.co.uk.
