Wattbike Racing at the Bobsleigh Track in Winterberg, Germany

At Wattbike we get invited to some pretty cool places but an event in Germany recently was a first, even for us! We took a bunch of Wattbikes to the bobsleigh track in Winterberg for the first ever cycle team relay sprint UP the famous bobsleigh course.
Given the nature of a bobsleigh track it was important to ensure that the competitors didn’t find themselves in an overtaking situation so a Wattbike race over 1500m determined the start order. We used the calculated W/Kg as a reference point as climbing skills would win the day in Winterberg. It was obvious that some of the competitors enjoyed the Wattbike race more than the race up the track!
70 competitors took on the 1100m track with an average gradient of 9% and maximum gradient of 14.5%. The quickest time to the finish was 3m40s while the slowest competitor took 7m00s.
A great day out for all and the Wattbike proved really popular!
