Wattbike Expert Problem - Windows Vista

I have installed Wattbike Expert on Windows Vista (Business SP1) but I get the following error when starting the application:

File C:\Program Files\WATTBIKE Expert\\ExpertParameters.edb still open or doesn’t exist

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstalled 2.50.42 supplied on the CD and installed 2.50.43 from the website
2. Installed 2.50.43 in compatability mode (XP SP2)
3. Change the security rights for the edb files to ‘full control’

But I still get the same error.

Please advise what the fix is for this.

Hi ibrogden

Once you have installed the software does it work the first time that you try to open it?

There is a screen cast on the Software Download page at http://wattbike.com/uk/wattbike/the_expert_software/software_download/ which may solve the problem.

The one step that many people were missing was to set the compatibility mode of the software after it had been installed.

If you try those steps and let me know if you have any positive results we will aim to help in any way we can.

Cheers

Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Meantime I have installed Wattbike Expert on my wife’s XP laptop with no problems.

This morning I tried again on my Vista machine with success. You were correct, I had missed the final step to update the properties of the installed program to run in compatability mode. It also must be set to run as administrator on my machine.

For anyone having the same problem, quick solution is:
1. Download latest version of Wattbike Expert from wattbike.com
2. Right click on the installer, click Properties, select the Compatability tab
3. Select ‘Run this program in compatability mode’ for Windows XP (SP2)
3b. You may also have to select ‘Run this program as an administrator’.
4. Install the software
5. After installation, right click on the launch icon, click Properties, select the Compatability tab
6. Select ‘Run this program in compatability mode’ for Windows XP (SP2).
6b. You may also have to select ‘Run this program as an administrator’.
Run the software.

Iain.

Great news Ian

For anyone else the steps Ian has outlined are also demonstrated on the screencast at

ps. I just upgraded to Windows 7 and reinstalled Wattbike Expert on that - works a treat by following the instructions above.
