I am a Personal Trainer, Runner and now Triathlete. I won use of the Wattbike through the 220 Triathlon magazine.
At the time I was looking to invest in a Turbo Trainer to help with my winter bike training in readiness for attempting to qualify for the Duathlon Championships in Edinburgh and also my first Olympic Triathlon in June.
Coming from a running background my cycling muscles and skills were undeveloped and as I consequence I had found this my weakest area in previous races. As duathlon involved a 40k bike I was determined to improve in the discipline and the Wattbike and the training I undertook linked to it, greatly enhanced my performances.
Using both the bike and computer display to manage my technique and cadence I was able to improve my cycling shapes to increase my speed without wasting energy. This coupled with short power sessions similar to Winter Time Trialling, developed the strength in my muscles allowing me to improve quickly.
When the weather turned for the worst endurance cycles could also be done on the Wattbike in the comfort of the home.
More comfortable than a turbo and geared to power and endurance rather than just spinning the Wattbike has proved invaluable in taking my average times above the 20mph mark with my current 16k pb standing at 26.50, a massive improvement on the 30minute times I was clocking last year.
Thanks again to Wattbike and especially the assistance of Eddie Fletcher
