Last month we met up with Jonny Cooper of The Telegraph at Virgin Active's flagship 200 Aldersgate Health Club to introduce him to the Wattbike. Despite leaving him ‘hung, drawn and quartered' after the 3 minute aerobic test, he was impressed by how much more efficient his training could be.
As a commuter looking to make the step up to sportives, he quickly understood that analysing pedalling technique and setting training zones will bring much more focus to his training, thus eliminating hours in the saddle pushing out junk miles.
We were able to show Jonny immediately where he could improve his pedalling technique: by smoothing out the transfer of power from one downstroke to the next. Then we donned our medieval torturer outfits (his words) for the aerobic test, to establish Jonny's training zones. He'll use this information to put together a focused and personalised training plan based on his own physiologiy for his upcoming ride - The Etape du Tour.
