Born to Ride

A couple of weeks ago we had the privilege of being invited to the launch of Stephen Roche’s Born to Ride book launch in Central London. It’s 25 years since Stephen completed what can only be described as an unbelievable feat in winning the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and World Championships in a single year. Only Eddie Merckx has done the same so it’s what we would call a pretty exclusive club.
Born to Ride charts Stephen’s career and it was great to hear about the process of writing such a book both from Stephen himself and Pete Cossins who helped to lay down on paper some of the great stories which had previously only been heard around the dining table or on rides with the great man.
We also heard from the publishers of the book who talked about the market for cycling books booming right now, which is such a fantastic thing to hear and reinforces the surge in interest we’re seeing in the sport.
Stephen's bike from the 1987 season was on display, it's been lovingly restored and we hear he will ride it up the Champs Elysees on the final day of The London-Paris, that shoud be a real highlight of the event.
Stephen Roche's Born to Ride is available now so while you wait for it to be delivered here's a video of Stephen taking on the Wattbike Peak Power Challenge at 2011 Alpine Challenge.
