A guide to perfecting your bike set up

October 08, 2021 2 min read

Getting the right set up on your indoor bike trainer is crucial to avoiding injuries but also so you can enjoy time spent on your Wattbike smart bike trainer.

Here’s our guide for perfecting your basic bike set up.

1.First up, always check your saddle height

  • Raise or lower your saddle height using the lever on the rear of the saddle stem. Loosen the lever to adjust the stem and tighten to secure.
  • Stand next to the pedals on the bike, and raise the saddle up to the top of your hip bone.
  • Then jump on the bike and check the saddle height. You’re looking for a steady, stable feeling, with no rocking side to side on the saddle.
2. Now, perfect your saddle horizontal position
  • Your knee should be directly above the centre of the pedal when the pedals are horizontal.
  • To adjust your saddle horizontal positions use a 4mm Allen key to loosen the saddle slider - this is located under the saddle. After adjusting, tighten to secure.

3. Next, the handlebars.

  • Use the lock lever on the front of the handlebar stem to adjust your handlebar height.
  • You want to aim to have your handlebars at the same height as the top of the saddle. However this is subjective and depending on your flexibility and personal preference you might want to adjust this slightly for extra comfort.
4. Finally, perfect your riding position by tweaking your handlebar fore/aft position
  • Adjust your handlebar fore/aft position using the 5mm Allen key in the red tab to loosen the handlebar. After adjusting, tighten to secure.
  • With your hands resting on the handlebars, you’re looking for a 90˚ angle between your arm and torso. Again, this is more a personal preference than a direct instruction, so adjust to what feels comfortable.
