After England Rugby’s disappointing knockout in the Rugby World Cup, we took the opportunity to talk to rugby analyst and former pro, Will Greenwood, about what went wrong for England.

Will, in your eyes what went wrong for England?
The last 15 minutes against Wales were 900 seconds that a lot of young men will remember for a long time – a 10 point lead at Twickenham overturned – will give them nightmares for years to come! Sloppy execution, poor decisions, and a brilliant Wales meant that come the Australia game they were vulnerable and a magnificent Australia did the rest!
If you were in Stuart Lancaster’s place, what selection changes would you have made?
I think the area Stuart would look back on is in the midfield. I have absolutely no concern with the personnel in the squad, I really don’t. But the tinkering never allowed the stable relationships to build, the kind of relationships that don’t crack under pressure.
How do you think England will bounce back from this?
With a stiff upper lip and an incredible work ethic to come out firing in the 6 Nations. Ireland and Wales at home – victories can have Twickenham man and woman singing again!!
Do you think this is a time for significant change within the England camp?
No – I have always been one to advocate stability in a squad. In a team. In a coaching structure.
What has been you stand-out moment of the World Cup so far?
So many – on the field – Japan’s try by Hesketh in dying seconds v South Africa. Pre match Tonga v New Zealand – incredible challenges thrown down. Unbelievable defence by Australia v Wales. Ridiculously good composure by Ireland against France.
Which team has impressed you the most and why?
Argentina – love these guys – seriously tough and talented. Bounceback from South Africa post Japanese defeat. New Zealand marching slowly on. Australia rocking the boat. Ireland accuracy under pressure. Wales sheer grit and desire not to lose against England.
Which players have impressed you the most and why?
Juan Imhoff – wing – Argentina – pace, power and vision
Willie Le Roux – all he touches turns to gold
Iain Henderson – might allow Ireland to survive Paul O’Connell horror injury
Aaron Smith – jack in a box scrum half
Dan Biggar – ice cool
Australian back row – all of them – magnificent!!!!!!!!!!
What are your score predictions for the ¼ finals and how do you see the games being played out?
a. SA vs Wales South Africa by 6
b. New Zealand vs France New Zealand by 10
c. Ireland vs Argentina draw after normal time – Ireland to win in extra time!
d. Australia vs Scotland Australia by 8
Who are you tipping as Champions and why?
New Zealand – this is Dan Carter’s time!
Ok, so now we’ve had the lowdown on your feelings about the rugby, it’s time to get your feelings about the Wattbike! What is your favourite Wattbike session?
I love the bike full stop… Mike Tindall sets me some beasts.. intervals.. short sharp rests – go again!!
Why did you choose Wattbike as your home training tool?
Brilliant technology, amazing flexibility, and you can really train hard in a short space of time if you are late for work!
Why are so many rugby players turning to cycling?
Rugby players normally heavy men – cycling takes the weight off the bones but lets you to train to the levels you did in England camp!
Are you willing to accept Graham Rowntree’s 100km challenge?
I tend to hide from Graham Rowntree challenges – he is one of the toughest men I have ever met!
Have you got a challenge we can give to Oz, Will Carling, Graham Rowntree etc?
6 x 500m with 2 mins rest between sets… only takes 15 mins – brutal!!!
